Future Bright for Extreme Choice Colt

Tara Madgwick - Sunday September 26

This Extreme Choice colt didn’t win a stakes race at Sandown on Saturday, but there is every reason to think he will do this spring as a half-brother to Group I winner Invincibella and classy stayer Secret Blaze, who won the Group III MVRC JRA Cup on Friday night.

Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, he broke his maiden at his third start with a facile victory at Moe on September 13 and backed up into the $130,000 open three year-old event over 1400m on Saturday to win again.

Easy in the market starting at $10, he powered clear to win by more than a length in an encouraging performance with blinkers added to his gear proving an inspired decision.

“He’s a colt we’ve always liked a lot and we thought the blinkers would get him to show what he’s got and they’ve done a good job,” said Anthony Freedman.

“We’ve taken him out of the Caulfield Guineas as he’s just not there yet, but he; will have another run or two and if he ends up in the Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington it will have been a good spring.”

A $340,000 Inglis Easter purchase form the Sledmere Stud draft for his trainers, Extreme Flight was the highest priced yearling for his sire sold in 2020.

He is a half-brother to $3million earner Invincibella, who sold for $1.2million at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last year, as well as Group III winner Secret Blaze being the third winner from top producer Abscond, an unraced Galileo mare from the family of Group I SAJC Adelaide Cup winner The Hind.

With his pedigree featuring a mix of speed and stamina, Extreme Flight looks poised for a fruitful classic season.
