Written Tycoon Filly Goes Two for Two

Mark Smith - Wednesday September 22

Building on her debut win on a heavy track at Warrnambool, the Written Tycoon filly New York Baby returned from a twenty-week hiatus to keep her record perfect at Flemington on Wednesday.

Ridden by Damien Oliver for Leon and Troy Corstens, New York Baby camped outside of the heavily backed No Nay Never (USA) filly Forever And a Day down the straight 1200m.

New York Baby dropped Forever And a Day at the 250m to win by two and a half lengths, with the Zoustar filly Dueastar back in third.

Malua Bloodstock purchased New York Baby for $75,000 from the Sledmere Stud drat at the 2020 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

The daughter of the reigning Champion Australian stallion has already wiped off her purchase price with her two wins, netting connections $101,900 with the promise of plenty more to come.

“She was very good. It looked like she was having a bit of a look down the straight, but once Ollie gave her the click, she was very good,” stable representative Dom Sutton said.

“Seeing that she handles the straight, that gives us plenty of options going forward.
“There’s some nice races for the three-year-olds down the straight. Something like the Coolmore (Stud Stakes) comes to mind if she is going to head that way.

“We will get her back home and make a plan from there.

New York Baby a $75,000 Inglis Premier Yearling

Damien Oliver said New York Baby is stakes class if kept to her own age and sex.

“She is a nice filly that has pleased me every time I have ridden her,” Oliver said

“I rode her in a trial leading up to Warrnambool and a trial leading up to today. She has progressed every time.

“She is still a bit wintery, so off one trial, if she does not tackle too high a race, she can step up to something a little bit better next time.

“It would be worth having a crack at some stakes-class fillies races. I’m sure Troy will find the right sort of race for her. He is doing a great job with his team. It’s nice to team up with him.”

New York Baby is the second foal and second winner of the Dane Shadow mare Shadow Doll, who won races at the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast from 14 starts.

Ponderosa Park purchased her for $13,000 at the 2020 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale. That paid off when Bendigo Bloodstock bought the Wandjina filly she was carrying for $50,000 at the 2021 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale.

Shadow Doll is a daughter of the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes winner Mirjulisa Lass.

If that pedigree sounds familiar to regular Breednet readers, it features in a recent story in the Breed To Race series.

Mirjulisa Lass (Danasinga) is the dam of Aasish Kapadia’s pride and joy Noteably (All Too Hard), purchased on Inglis Digital for only $3,750 in March 2021 as a broodmare prospect.

Shadow Roll visited Puissance De Lune (IRE) last spring.
