Zoustar Tuesday Treble

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday September 21

Widden Stud’s flagship sire Zoustar had a treble of three lightly raced new maiden three year-old winners on Tuesday in Northern Melody, Zoumon and Battleton, a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Bjorn Baker Racing/Clarke Bloodstock.

The first two races at Kyneton went to the Matt Ellerton and Simon Zahra trained filly Northern Melody and the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained gelding  Zoumon, who made a winning debut.

Zoustar kept the ball rolling at Wyong where Bjorn Baker produced promising colt Battleton with an eye-catching debut victory in the 1100m maiden.

Battleton had shown ability in recent trials and was well backed to win, coming with a powerful late run under Jason Collett to win by a long neck.

Battleton was a $300,000 MM purchase from Widden Stud.

Bred by Qatar Bloodstock, Battleton is the first foal from Dulverton, a good metro winning half-sister to Group I winner Warhorse and to the dam of Group III winner Zee Falls.

Dulverton was covered last spring by Zoustar’s brilliant Group II winning son Zousain, who stands alongside his sire at Widden Stud.

Zoustar is priced at $154,000 and Zousain at  $19,800 with his first foals on the ground this spring.
