I Am Invincible's Madam Legend Claims Tibbie Stakes

Mark Smith - Friday September 17

The Les Bridge-trained Madam Legend made every post a winner under Jeff Penza in Friday’s Group III Yarraman Park Tibbie Stakes (1400m) at Newcastle.

In an on-pace dominated race, the 5yo daughter of I Am Invincible repelled the challenge of the 5yo Lonhro mare Mirra Vision by a short-head with the 5yo Uncle Mo (USA) mare Great News a length back in third.

A last-start winner over 1200m at Kembla Grange, Madam Legend made her first attempt at black-type and did the right thing by the sponsor.

“We had to work to get across, which wasn’t ideal, but she came back underneath me, and she just controlled it until I let her stride,” Penza said.

“It was a super effort. I could feel them coming at her, and she dug deep. It was a really good effort.

“She is very honest, very sweet to ride, and you could not have asked anything more of her today.”

Madam Legend was purchased by Carmel Size Racing, on behalf of Legend Racing’s Boniface Ho Ka-kui, for $250,000 from the Canning Downs Stud consignment at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. She advances her record to seven wins, one second, and four from 17 starts with earnings of $405,650.

Madam Legend is the best of four winners from five to race out of the unraced Encosta De Lago mare Mithila.

Purchased by Dermot Farrington for $325,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, Mithila is a three-quarter-sister to Manhattan Rain, Echoes Of Heaven and Niagara and a half to Mujana and Celebria, dam of Gathering, Florentina, and California Turbo.

Mithila has a yearling filly, one of just seven sired by Kementari, and foaled a Zousain colt on August 24.

Madam Legend becomes the 65th stakes-winner for Yarraman Park Stud’s I Am Invincible, who stands at a fee of $220,000 this spring.
