James Cummings to seek revenge in Reginald Allen

Tom Baddock - Wednesday September 20

James Cummings is hoping to seek some revenge on his father and brother in next month's Listed Reginald Allen Quality after odds-on favourite Nai'a was outdone by Anthony and Edward Cummings' Memento at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Nai'a started as the $1.80 favourite in the TAB.com.au maiden plate (1100m) but it was Memento ($7) that prevailed for Anthony and Edward for a convincing 1-1/2 length victory, while Nai'a finished a disappointing second-last.

Anthony declared that he had black type in his sights after the break-through victory.

"She was very professional today," Anthony said. "It was the first time she has put it all together."

"When we started we thought she might be lining up for a Flight Stakes or something like that, that's going to come too soon for her I think but there's the Reginald Allen the week after and there's some other nice races around and if she continues to take the steps she could easily end up in Melbourne."

James Cummings soon bounced back with a winning filly of his own, with Regimen putting on a professional display in the #THERACES Benchmark 73 Handicap (1200m) and he made it clear he had plans for payback in the coming weeks.

"She's got a lot of speed about her, she's a real ball of muscle," James said. "She's taking the right steps so we're delighted to see her beat the older mares, which was a little bit hard for her to do last time.

"I think she's come and justified the promise we thought she had. We had her in the Tea Rose Saturday of course but there was no way she could have worked better than Alizee in the lead up to that and she's paid for the scratching fee today.

"I thought she was being felt for before the turn and I appreciate they would have run up the straight pretty quickly in an on speed dominated affair but I'm tempted to consider a race like Reginald Allen.

"My brother and father knocked me off in the earlier race with Memento so maybe I can get back at them with Regimen."

If everything goes to plan bragging rights will be on the line when the pair meet on October 14 in the $125,000 event.
