Third Time Lucky for Pride of Dubai’s Mayrose

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 15

Second at her first two starts in provincial maidens last month, Pride of Dubai filly Mayrose had race fitness and experience on her side when coming to Randwick on Wednesday to break her maiden in town.

The John Sargent trained filly was ridden by Jason Collett who gave her a good run on the fence from barrier one and despite racing greenly when asked to accelerate between horses, she responded to win the 1100m contest by three-quarters of a length.

Mayrose was retained to race by her breeder and has already banked over $43,000 in prizemoney with the promise of more wins to come.

“She’s a leggy filly that will be better again in six months time,” said John Sargent.

“Everything out of the mare (Mallard) can gallop and she might be the best of them.”

Foaled and raised at Fairhill Farm, Mayrose is the fourth winner from five foals to race from Mallard, a half-sister by Falkirk to stakes-winners Anatina and Pricked, the family tracing back to brilliant filly Mother Duck with other star members of the family being Group II winner Quackerjack, Group III winner Alberto Magic and Group I placed Ladys Angel.

Pride of Dubai has made a good start to the new season and is the leading third crop sire by earnings and stands at a fee of $22,000 at Coolmore this spring.
