Pedigree Potential – Ready to Run

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Tuesday September 14

With 11 winners in the past seven days you would have to be living under a stone not to have noticed that this much missed sire is in the middle of a purple patch and the opportunities to secure his stock are limited.

At the end of 2019, Cambridge Stud tragically lost Group I sire Tavistock at the height of his powers at age 14. The Group I winning son of Montjeu was super popular at the time of his death and his stocks have done nothing but rise since then.

The chances to secure the progeny of Tavistock are now very limited.

Tavistock sired over 100 winners in Australia last season including 10 stakes-winners headed by Group I Victoria Derby winner Johnny Get Angry and this season is shaping as more of the same.

Last Saturday he sired brilliant mare Entriviere to win the Group II ATC Sheraco Stakes and in the last few days we’ve seen impressive three year-old maiden wins for French Emperor, Gunstock and Tiz Magic (One to Watch on Tuesday) as a new generation of his classic three year-olds emerge.

Injured in his last season at stud, Tavistock has a significantly smaller crop of yearlings headed to Karaka for 2022, which puts the spotlight firmly on his two year-olds to be offered at the NZB Ready to Run Sale in November.

There are seven to be offered by Kiltannon Stables (2), Riversley Park, KB Bloodstock, Curraghmore, Regal Farm and Kilgravin Lodge and they include:

Lot 131 a colt from Group III winning Thorn Park mare Glamorous Girl, who has left seven winners from seven foals to race.

Lot 140 a colt from Group I WRC Telegraph Handicap winner Guiseppina, a daughter of SW Battochi.

Lot 155 a filly bred on the great Tavistock x Zabeel cross and is from Kachina, a half-sister to Hong Kong Derby winner Super Satin.

Lot 267 is another filly bred the same way, this one from stakes-winning Zabeel mare Ritzy Lady, the dam of three winners including Group III place Le Societe.

Lot 322 half-brother to stakes-winners Windborne and Darci’s Dream being from good producer Sweet Dreams Baby, who has had six winners from six to race!
