Wootton Bassett Super Popular in Ireland

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 10

Several Coolmore sires currently in Australia proved super popular with breeders in Ireland earlier this year with their new acquisition Wootton Bassett (GB) covering 244 mares according to Weatherbys.

A Group I winning son of Iffraaj that started his stud career in France at Haras d’Etreham at a modest fee, Wootton Bassett quickly rose to fame as the sire of Group I stars Almanzor, Audarya and Wooded.

This year he has been given the opportunity to cover some of the best mares in Europe with his outcross pedigree seen as a perfect foil for all the Galileo and Danehill line mares.

Japanese bred Deep Impact son Saxon Warrior (Jpn) was also super popular covering 191 mares off the back of some impressive foal sales last year with his first European bred yearlings proving well sought after. He stands here at a fee of just $13,750, an incredible price for this quality of pedigree and performance.

Magna Grecia (IRE) and Calyx (GB) both covered books of 127 mares and 102 mares respectively and are in Australia for their second season with first foals now on the ground and impressing breeders. Read more about their foals here.
