First Trial Winner for Spieth

Greg Tobin - Monday September 6

It’s somewhat fitting that the initial 2YO triallists for Aquis Farm’s exciting young sire, Spieth, have made their ‘debut’ at the Gold Coast’s Aquis Park.

With the first heat of Monday morning’s barrier trials at the Gold Coast dedicated to 2YOs, all three Spieth youngsters – Victory Moments, Acotango and Wild Botanica – put in promising displays for trainer Kacy Fogden, finishing 1st, 2nd and 4th.

The winner Victory Moments was retained to race by his breeder and is a handsome chestnut colt like his sire. He is the first foal of Group III winning Street Boss (USA) mare Tris, who has been a regular visitor to Aquis sires and is in foal to Pierata after producing a colt by Brave Smash (Jpn) last spring.

Covering a book of 149 in his first season, it’s encouraging to see the Spieths out this early and also that Monday’s three runners are out of mares by Street Boss, Exceed And Excel and Foxwedge, indicating the stallion will “work with a wide pedigree range”.

A good indication of their precocity is that 35 of Spieth’s first crop have already been named, while 23 are nominated for the 2022 Golden Slipper.

Spieth is a Premium stallion, click for more information.

By the speed influence Thorn Park, Spieth is free of Danehill blood and offers an ideal outcross for many breeders.

A lightning quick performer and winner of the Listed City Tatts over 1100m at Randwick, Spieth was also multiple Group 1 placed (including lip seconds in the Lightning and Darley Classic down the Flemington straight).

Popular in the sales ring, Spieth’s yearlings sold up to $180,000 earlier this year.
