Victorian trainer on two charges

A Victorian trainer has been issued with two charges over presenting a horse at the races with a prohibited substance in its system.

Racing Victoria Stewards have charged Kelvin Bourke with two infractions of AR 178 following the participation of Can't Refuse, which finished last of 12, in the Benchmark 70 Handicap at Sandown on July 26.

The particulars of the first charge are:

1. On July 26, 2017, Can't Refuse was brought to the Sandown Racecourse where it ran unplaced in the Le Pine Funeral Handicap (1800 metres).

2. A prohibited substance, being Phenylbutazone and its metabolite Oxyphenbutazone (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory),was detected in the pre-race blood sample taken from Can't Refuse on July 26, 2017.

The particulars of the second charge are:

1. On July 26, 2017, Can't Refuse was brought to the Sandown Racecourse where it ran unplaced in the Le Pine Funeral Handicap (1800 metres).

2. A prohibited substance, being Phenylbutazone and its metabolite Oxyphenbutazone (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory),was detected in the post-race blood sample taken from Can't Refuse on July 26, 2017.

The charges will be heard before the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board on a date to be fixed.
