Spring is in the Air – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Thursday August 26

The Chris Waller stable sent out some of their spring big guns at the Rosehill trials on Thursday morning including glamour sprinter Nature Strip and a Group I placed maiden that will not remain winless for long.

Last seen winning the Group I ATC TJ Smith in April, Nature Strip looked sensational in winning his 900m heat by six lengths with Glyn Schofield sitting quiet in the saddle.

The champion son of Nicconi was always in cruise control beating his stablemates Subpoenaed, September Run and Madam Rouge, all top class mares gearing up for more stakes success this season.

The following heat was won by Flying Artie colt Giannis, who closed out his juvenile season with a fine second to Converge in the Group I BRC JJ Atkins.

Giannis travelled wide in his heat tracking the leaders and when asked to find the line he let down smoothly for Glyn Schofield to win going away by half a length held together.

Give the profile of his sire Flying Artie, who improved markedly from two to three, there is a high degree of expectation that his stock will do the same and Giannis looks well placed to shake off maiden status quickly and progress into Black Type races. He holds entries for the Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas.

Flying Artie has already hit the top of the second crop sires list as we move through the first month of the new season with four winners.
