One to Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 25

She hasn’t won a stakes race yet, but we’re tipping this progressive four year-old mare will have by the end of this season.

Trained by Chris Waller, Brookspire was a very short priced favourite to make a winning return following a winter spell at Randwick on Wednesday and duly got the job done with a minimum of fuss.

The daughter of Hinchinbrook was a troubled eighth in the Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks at her previous start when beaten two lengths and never tested, so always looked a good think in the Benchmark 72 event over 1400m.

Drawn in gate one, she surged up the fence for Hugh Bowman to win running away by three and a half lengths.

Brookspire runs in the Yes Yes Yes colours of Brae Sokolski and was a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft for Chris Waller Racing/Brae Sokolski.

Brookspire as a yearling.

With three wins and two placings from seven starts and prizemoney just shy of $160,000 the best is still to come for Brookspire, a half-sister to Group I winner Inspirational Girl, who kicks off her spring campaign in the Group I MRC Memsie Stakes at Caulfield this Saturday.

Brookspire is also a half-sister to stakes-winner Ruettiger and is one of five winners from good producing Zabeel mare Be Inspired, a sibling to Group III winners Rainbow Styling and Zingaling.
