Second Stakes-Winner for Churchill

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 21

A homebred for the Aga Khan, exciting two year-old colt Vadeni became the first stakes-winning colt for Galileo’s champion son Churchill (IRE) overnight when winning the Listed Criterium du Fonds Européen de l’Elevage (1600m) at Deauville.

Vadeni broke his maiden on debut last month and stepped straight into Black Type company by trainer Jean-Claud Rouget, he showed his class.

Vadeni extended over the final furlong to surge away from Godolphin runner Officer of state to win by two lengths as a short priced favourite

Vadeni is a half-brother to stakes-placed horses and is the best of five winners from winning Monsun mare Vaderana, a half-sister to Group winners Vadamar and The Pentagon from Group I winner Vadawina.

Standing at Coolmore Australia this spring at a fee of $22,000, Churchill is building an impressive record with 14 first crop winners in Europe and Vadeni is his second stakes-winner joining the smart filly Ladies Church and Group III placed colt Unconquerable.

Churchill will have his first Australian runners this season.

Churchill (IRE) is a Premium stallion, click for more information.
