New Juvenile Stakes-Winner Wootton Bassett

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 21

Exciting first time Coolmore shuttler Wootton Bassett (GB) sired his second new two year-old stakes-winner this week when Attagirl captured the Listed Roses Stakes (5f) at York overnight.

Trained by Karl Burke, Attagirl ran bravely last weekend to be beaten a head when second at her previous start in a Listed race at Newbury with 17 runners.

She made amends for that narrow loss when travelling strongly to the line to win by half a length and has now won two of her five starts and placed in two more.

“We weren't going to run Attagirl as she ran just last week at Newbury - and should have won, she drifted and got chinned on the line. But Karl said she was bouncing and she's a big filly, she'll be a three-year-old. It was important to get black type because we own the mare,” said her owner Steve Parkin.

Attagirl was purchased for 90,000 pounds at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale by Jill Lamb Bloodstock and is the second winner from Italian stakes-winner Catalina Bay.

She becomes the 21st stakes-winner for Wootton Bassett, who shuttles to Coolmore Australia at a fee of $71,500.
