Spring is in the Air – Randwick Trials

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 20

A set of 12 Randwick trials on Friday morning produced plenty of interesting winners including last season’s Group I winning two year-old Converge and Everest contender Lost and Running, while Libertini’s younger sister continues to impress.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Frankel gelding Converged could not have been more impressive in powering home from back in the field to win his 1000m heat by nearly three lengths over a field that included Group I winners Shout the Bar, Lion’s Roar and Captivant.

It was his second trial this prep and he looks in great shape to pick up where he left off last time when finishing his juvenile season with a win in the Group I BRC JJ Atkins. Converge is entered for everything and rightly so.

Lost and Running contested an 850m heat featuring Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside and New Zealand’s top two year-old colt last season Sword of State.

The John O’Shea trained son of Per Incanto (USA) travelled deep all the way and was always on the bridle edging clear to win by a short neck with the glamour three year-old colts finishing fourth and fifth on the inside some two and a half lengths back held together.

The Ron Quinton trained De An Andretti has a bit to live up to as a full sister to explosive sprinting mare Libertini, but the three year-old I Am Invincible filly clearly has some talent of her own.

A homebred for Gerry Harvey, she won on debut at Hawkesbury back in April and was having her second trial this prep when dashing home late between horses to snatch a narrow, but impressive win.
