New US Stakes-Winner for Fastnet Rock

Tara Madgwick - Monday August 16

The famed Fastnet Rock  x Galileo cross has produced numerous Group I winners in Europe and Australasia and it has worked again to produce progressive filly Star Devine, who claimed her first Black type victory in the $120,000 Galway Stakes (5 ½ f) at Saratoga on Sunday.

A three year-old filly that was purchased from the 2019 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 200,000 guineas, the Jorge Abreu trained filly was a TDN Rising Star when winning on debut back in April.

Fourth and third in two subsequent runs, the bay struck top form to score a head win in a blanket finish.

Star Devine will likely contest the $500,000 Music City Stakes going 6 1/2 furlongs at Kentucky Downs on September 12 for her next appearance.

“We’re going to go to Kentucky Downs,” Abreu said.

“I’ve had some good luck there and I like going there. We’ll see how she comes out of it and that’s where we’ll aim.”

Star Devine is the first winner from Stars at Night, a winning half-sister by Galileo to Champion 3YO Filly and triple Group I winner Blue Bunting.

Star Devine has a two year-old full brother and yearling full sister so her breeders will be delighted she is now a stakes-winner.

The Fastnet Rock x Galileo cross is an outstanding one that has produced 23 stakes-winners from 107 runners at nearly  22% stakes-winners to runners, those stakes-winners including eight Group I winners!

Star Devine is the 177th stakes-winner worldwide for Fastnet Rock, who stands at Coolmore this spring at a fee of $165,000.
