Kingman Filly Tops Arqana August Day One

Media Release - Sunday August 15

Having returned to its original format, the August Yearling Sale kicked off the European yearling sales season on Saturday.

Following the conclusion of the first evening of the sale, which hosted the first half of Part I of the catalogue, 72% of the 79 colts and fillies that passed through the ring were sold for an average of €202,930, generating a turnover of €11,567,000.

Daughter of Kingman sold for €950,000 to Godolphin

Bids came from all sides of the sales ring for a daughter of the in-demand Kingman (lot 62) consigned by Haras d’Haspel. Coming up against notably David Redvers, Anthony Stroud, bidding on behalf of Godolphin, had the final say at €950,000 for the half-sister to fellow Deauville graduate NATIVE TRAIL, the winner of the Superlative Stakes (Gr.2) after the catalogue had been printed.

The well-bred filly is from the close family of Haydock Park Sprint Cup (Gr.1) winner AFRICAN ROSE.

“She’s a lovely filly and Kingman has nothing to prove to anyone,” said Anthony Stroud.

“Godolphin also owns her two-year-old half-brother, so we are very happy. It’s a lovely Juddmonte family - she has the pedigree, the conformation, and will have a lot of residual value after her racing career. We really wanted her.”

José Delmotte of Haras d’Haspel said after the sale, “I first want to thank my daughter and son-in-law and all the team at the stud, because nothing would have been possible without them. I was really caught between the different buyers who were bidding against each other, so I wasn’t looking at the price. It was only when I looked back at the auction board that I realised and that was the apotheosis! This is the culmination of a lot of time, a lot of sacrifice and investment. We are going to continue in this direction and we hope that it will continue to smile on us!”

Also on behalf of Godolphin, Anthony Stroud additionally signed for lot 68 for €350,000, a son of Lope de Vega from Ballylinch Stud.

The first foal out of Group winner NORMANDEL, the colt hails from the close family of Coronation Cup (Gr.1) winner PYLEDRIVER, as well as HELENE CHARISMA ex MONT ORMEL, the Grand Prix de Paris (Gr.1) scorer.

€750,000 for GOLDEN VALENTINE’s second foal

A second foal out of Prix Minerve (Gr.3) winner GOLDEN VALENTINE (lot 17) was one of 17 yearlings offered by Ecurie des Monceaux during the evening.

Oliver St Lawrence went to €750,000 to secure the son of Dubawi, that is a grandson of Group winner GOLD ROUND, a half-sister to the excellent GOLDIKOVA.

“He’s a lovely colt and a son of Dubawi. I’ve bought him for KHK Racing. He’ll go to England, but we don’t know yet where he’ll be trained - we’ll decide in due course. We’re very happy to have got him..”

Daughter of Galileo sold for €600,000 to David Redvers

A daughter of the late Galileo (lot 56) was subject to a lot of attention around the ring before being knocked down for €600,000 to David Redvers on behalf of Qatar Racing.

The filly, consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux, is a half-sister to Prix Lieurey (Gr.3) winner WIND CHIMES.

“She’s a superb filly with a great physique. She’s also a daughter of the exceptional Galileo and comes from one of the best breeding establishments in France. I am very hopeful for her, and she has everything that we look for, so we are very happy. We haven’t decided where she’ll be trained, but she’ll stay in France.”
