Two Quick Winners for Tivaci

Media Release - Friday August 13

Tivaci has rapidly doubled his winning tally with further Australian success on Thursday at Scone where his daughter Mascherata was a stylish and untested winner over 1200m in her three-year-old debut.

The Waikato Stud stallion was off the mark on Wednesday when Celevacci triumphed at Belmont at the first time of asking and Mascherata delivered a second and expected victory.

She is held in high regard by trainer John O’Shea, who was confident of success off the back of a sparkling Randwick trial late last month.

“She’s always been a filly that we have thought quite highly of. She’s come back well and I thought her trial was fantastic the other day,” he said.

“I’m very, very happy with her and really looking forward to watching the progeny of Tivaci over the next 12 months.”

Mascherata was allowed plenty of time to settle and raced in fourth last spot near the rail before rider Alysha Collett got her off the fence before the turn and the filly let down powerfully in the run home.

“The main aim was to get her to relax for the first half of the race and she then put them away with ease. She was beautiful to ride and found a good rhythm. She’s a really nice horse,” Collett said.

Bred by Waikato Stud, Mascherata was a $150,000 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale purchase for O’Shea, who also trained the dam and four-time winner Fancy Dress.

By Savabeel and in foal to Super Seth, she is a half-sister to the Gr.2 Cal Isuzu Stakes winner and dual Group One placegetter Sports Illustrated and the family of the home-bred globetrotting multiple Group One winner and sire Starcraft. - NZ RAcing Desk
