One to Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 10

Highlighted in a recent Juvenile Trial Watch story this $1million I Am Invincible colt made a winning debut at Hawkesbury on Tuesday.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, three year-old colt Journalism was well tuned with two recent trials most recently beating stakes-winner Najmaty in a heat at Randwick last month.

Sent out favourite for the 1100m maiden with Brenton Avdulla on board, Journalism raced on the pace and was tenacious to the line winning by a long head over Sing a Love Song, who was competitive in Group races last season.

Stable representative Neil Paine was optimistic about the chances of Journalism before the race and his opinion was vindicated.

“He’s improved every trial,” said Paine of the promising colt that holds an entry for the Group I ATC Golden Rose next month.

“He will get better over further. Once he gets to 1400m, a mile he’ll be a very nice horse.”

A $1million Magic Millions purchase for his trainers, Journalism was bred and sold by Rosemont Stud and runs for a syndicate headed by Go Bloodstock with Rosemont retaining a share.

Journalism was bred and sold by Rosemont Stud.

He is the second foal Northern Meteor’s Group I winning daughter Amanpour, who was bought by Rosemont Stud for $1.5million at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Rosemont Stud sold a yearling filly by Redoute’s Choice from Amanpour at Inglis Easter this year for $350,000 to Ciaron Maher Bloodstock and have and Exceed and Excel filly to follow. She was covered last spring by Pride of Dubai.

Last season’s champion Australian sire by winners, Yarraman Park’s I Am Invincible is already on his way to another big season with eight winners in the past 10 days!
