$825,000 Justify Colt Makes Early Running at Saratoga

Mark Smith - Tuesday August 10

A powerfully built colt from the first crop by Triple Crown hero Justify (USA) made the early running as the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling Sale got underway on Monday.

Consigned by Sequel New York, Agent for Chester & Mary Broman, the chestnut was the subject of spirited bidding before Travis Durr, agent for David Hudson, silenced the opposition with a bid of $825,000.

The colt is a half-brother to this seasons smart 2yo Coinage (Tapit), who opened his winning account with a seven and three-quarter length romp at Belmont Park last month for trainer Mark Casse.

Coinage was a $450,000 purchase from Sequel New York's consignment at the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Their dam is the Grade1 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner Bar of Gold (Medaglia d’Oro), who was runner-up in the Grade 1 Test Stakes.

Justify (USA) returns for his third season at Coolmore Stud this spring where his fee has been set at $55,000.
