One to Watch – Leopardstown

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 6

The 2021 Melbourne Cup will come too soon for this Lloyd Williams owned son of Camelot, but in 12 months time it may be a very different story.

Trained by Joseph O’Brien, three year-old colt Collins Street had his first start overnight at Leopardstown in Ireland and forged clear for an impressive win.

Expected to run well, Collins Street sat behind the leaders and was far too good cruising home to win the 1m1f maiden by three and a half lengths.

“Collins Street is a lovely horse. He was a bit backward last year but he has come to life. They went a good gallop and Shane (Crosse, winning  rider) thinks he could be exciting. He could do no more than win the way he did,” said Brendan Powell, assistant trainer.

Collins Street is by renowned sire Camelot, who was the champion sire of stayers in Australia last season with star performers Sir Dragonet (IRE) and Russian Camelot (IRE), who stands at Widden Stud Victoria this spring.

Collins Street is a half-brother to two Group III placed performers and is the tenth winner from good producer Uliana, a winning half-sister by Darshaan to Group I winner Ransom O’War and to the dam of Australian Group II winner Star of the Seas and stakes-winner Spieth.
