New Stakes-Winner for Camelot

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 3

Camelot was the Champion Staying Sire in Australia last season and his outstanding son Russian Camelot (IRE) is an exciting addition to Widden Stud Victoria this spring, the Epsom Derby winning sire adding a new stakes-winner to his tally overnight in France.

Three year-old filly Penja scored a tenacious nose win over Fastnet Rock filly The Blue Brilliant to claim her first Black Type win in the Group III Prix de Psyche (1m2f) at Deauville.

Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, Penja has the tidy record of four wins and a second from six starts.

She was bought by her trainer for 90,000 euros from the 2019 Arqana October Yearling Sale and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Taos from Just With You, an unraced half-sister to Group II winner Frankyfourfingers.

Penja is the 39th stakes-winner for Camelot, who stood at Coolmore Ireland this year at a fee of 60,000 euros.
