Coolmore French Success Continues

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 3

Aidan O’Brien’s run of Group I success in France this year continued overnight when Newmarket 1,000 Guineas winner Mother Earth landed the Group I Prix Rothschild (1600m) for fillies and mares at Deauville.

The three year-old daughter of Zoffany scored a head win for Ryan Moore in a thrilling finish over older mares Sagamiyra (Sea the Stars) and Speak of the Devil (Wootton Bassett)

“We think a mile is Mother Earth’s trip. Sometimes when she goes to the front she waits a little bit and doesn't want to be in front for too long, but we think at the moment a mile is perfect,” said Aidan O’Brien.

“I don't think she'll need a break - she's very professional and she takes her racing well. The races are spaced out nicely and she's coming out of her races very well.”

Mother Earth has the consistent record three wins and nine placings from 13 starts and may head back to North America for the Breeders' Cup as she was second over there last year in the Juvenile Turf Filly race.

Purchased for 150,000 euros from the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale, Mother Earth is a half-sister to Group II winner Night of Colours and is the best of four winners from stakes-winning Green Desert mare Many Colours.

Mother Earth is the fourth Group I winner for the late Coolmore sire Zoffany, who died prematurely last year at age 13.

A Group I winner by Dansili, he shuttled to Coolmore Australia for four seasons.
