One to Watch – Goulburn

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 30

Gai Waterhouse has  had a lot of success with Gooree Stud bred horses over the years but she and trainer partner Adrian Bott had to buy this debut winning two year-old from the Gooree draft at Inglis Classic.

Promising Hallowed Crown gelding Kickatorp was tuned up for his first start at Goulburn on Friday with a winning trial at Randwick on July 9 and was able to overcome the outside gate to win.

Well ridden by Winona Costin, Kickatorp went forward from his wide gate, but settled behind the leaders albeit travelling deep.

When switched into clear running after turning for home he unleashed a good finish to run down the leader and win the 1000m maiden by half a length running away.

Kickatorp as a yearling.

An $80,000 Inglis Classic purchase, Kickatorp is the first foal from Group I placed Northern Meteor mare Skylight Glow, who traces back to US Group I winner Clabber Girl.

Gooree Stud sold a yearling colt by Your Song from Skylight Glow at Magic Millions this year to Mark Newnham for $130,000 and sold the mare herself in 2020 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale for $90,000 to Newgate Bloodstock.

Kickatorp is the 43rd winner this season for Twin Hills Stud based Hallowed Crown, who will finish this season in third place on the Australian Third Season Sires List by earnings behind only Deep Field and Toronado (IRE).

Hallowed Crown stands at Twin Hills Stud.

His winners are highlighted by Group II winner Colette and stakes-winner Lillemor, not to mention his Singapore trained stakes-winner Big Hearted, winner of the Singapore Gold Cup Sng G1.

Hallowed Crown stands at a fee of $11,000 this spring.
