Are You a Fan of Lope de Vega?

Victorian breeders looking for a little genetic magic in their matings this spring in the quest to breed a champion sprinter of the future will be intrigued by this newcomer stallion.

Larneuk Stud are proud to add brilliant Group II winning sprinter miler Endless Drama (IRE) to their roster in 2021 providing Victoria breeders with an affordably priced son of outstanding sire Lope de Vega (Fr).

Endless Drama stands at a fee of $8,800.

A Group I winning son of Shamardal, Lope de Vega shuttled to Australia for four seasons at the start of his stud career and made a huge impression.

His Australian conceived progeny include 17 stakes-winners headed by Group I winning sprinters Santa Ana Lane, Gytrash, Vega Magic and Vega One, so it’s not surprising local breeders have been keen to access him from his base at Ballylinch Stud in Ireland to Southern Hemisphere time.

The success Lope de Vega achieved in Australia has been mirrored in Europe with his fee for 2021 set at 125,000 euros highlighting the high regard in which he is held.

When the opportunity came up to stand Endless Drama, Larneuk Stud’s Neville Murdoch could certainly see the positives.

“He’s by one of the best stallions in Europe that has proven his stripes here as a sire of elite sprinters,” said Murdoch.

“He’s a lovely individual that was a debut winner over six furlongs at two and then developed into a quality sprinter miler that raced successfully until he was seven.

“Group I placed in Ireland and the UK at three and four, he joined the Chris Waller stable in 2016 and won the Group II Apollo Stakes (1400m) beating Group I winners Global Glamour and Comin’ Through.”

Endless Drama was an elite sprinter miler in Europe and Australasia.

Rated 122 by international Timeform, Endless Drama split Gleneagles and Belardo when finishing second in the Group I Irish 2,000 Guineas and was third in the prestigious Group I Lockinge Stakes at Newbury behind Belardo and Euro Charlene.

In Australia, he was third in the Group I BRC Stradbroke Handicap to Trekking and Tyzone, also won a pair of Group II races in New Zealand and retired as a three time Group II winner, but his race record is only part of his appeal as his female pedigree is a story in itself.

His first three dams are by Green Desert, Last Tycoon and Sir Ivor, three stallions that have had a profound effect on the Australian breeding industry over decades.

The Green Desert sireline has given us champion sire I Am Invincible, Last Tycoon has given us his champion sire grand-son Written Tycoon and Sir Ivor gave us the Sir Tristram sire dynasty, so there is a wealth of instantly recognizable blood in the pedigree of Endless Drama along with Black Type!

His first three dams Desert Drama, Tycoon’s Drama and Drama are all stakes-winners.

For breeders looking for a little genetic magic in their matings, Endless Drama may well fill the bill at a fee of $8,800 this spring.
