Triple Century for Widden Stud Victoria Sires

Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 25

Widden Stud Victoria is in a unique position this spring in having three stallions on the roster that have all sired 100 winners this season with Star Witness joining his barn mates Nicconi and Magnus in the ‘Century Club’ on Sunday.

For the fourth year in a row Star Witness has cracked a ton of winners with the Mark de Montfort trained three year-old filly Symo’s Girl bringing up the milestone when scoring at Gosford in the 1000m maiden.

Star Witness (100) joins Magnus (119 winners) and Nicconi (116 winners), the three centurions amassing 531 wins between them and in excess of $23.4m in seasonal progeny earnings.

"It is a remarkable achievement and highlights the depth of the Widden Victorian roster. Add to the mix the addition of freshman sires Russian Camelot and Doubtland and it certainly is an exciting line-up of stallions,” said Antony Thompson.

The trio have also sired 13 Australian stakes-winners this season between them!

Nicconi (6)  - Nature Strip G1, Niccanova G2, Criminal Defence G3, Graceful Girl, The Bopper and Scorched Earth.

Star Witness (5) – Graff G2, Handle the Truth, Aim, Threeode and Rhapsody Rose

Magnus (2) – Streets of Avalon G1, Kemalpasa G2

All three are priced affordably, Nicconi stands at $27,500, Star Witness at $16,500 and Magnus at $15,400.
