Second Winner for Alpine Eagle

Mark Smith - Sunday July 25

Armidale Stud's High Chaparral (IRE) stallion Alpine Eagle put a second winner on the board when the Scott Brunton-trained filly Verbano made a winning career debut over 1100m at Hobart on Sunday.

The outsider of Bruntons three runners, Verbano, rallied under Troy Baker to defeat his stablemate Neutralize (Rubick) by a half-length with the same distance back to Coeur De Lyon (Lionhearted) in third.

Verbano was a $20,000 purchase by her trainer out of the Brooklyn Park draft at the Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

She is the first foal of the Flemington winner Euston Road (Time Thief), whose dam Piccadilly is a three-quarter sister to Group III VRC Gilgai Stakes winner Recapitalize.

Verbano a $20,000 Tasmanian Magic Millions yearling

Brooklyn Park offered a half-sister to Verbano by Palentino at this year's Tasmanian Yearling Sale, where he failed to make his $55,000 reserve.

Alpine Eagle stands at Armidale Stud in 2021 at a fee of $6,500.
