Stakes Breakthrough for Time For War's Amasenus

Mark Smith - Saturday July 24

After breaking  a six-start winning streak when third in the Listed Beaufine Stakes, the four-year-old Time For War mare Amasenus was back on her pedestal in Saturday’s Listed HG Bolton Sprint (1200m) at Belmont.

Ridden by Chris Parnham for trainer Simon Miller, Amasenus came with a barnstorming finish to defeat the outsider of the field, the All Too Hard gelding Reflectivity by a head, with the Dream Ahead (USA) gelding Western Temple a length back in third.

A $14,000 purchase by Aquanita Racing out of the Taghadoe Stud draft at the 2017 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale, Amasenus advances her record to eight wins, two seconds, and a third from 16 starts with earnings of  $299,790.

“She’s a ripper, isn’t she? She is building an imposing record,” Miller said.

“He rides her so well. I was a bit nervous when we were back on the fence. By Chris’s own admission, she is better when she can wind up out wide. He knows her so well and has full confidence in her, and she has confidence in him.

“She doesn’t win by big margins, but she knows where the line is.

“I am a bit taken aback that in one prep, she has gone from a midweek ratings race to a stakes win.”

Sadly, both the sire and dam of Amasenus died within weeks of each other in 2017.

Her dam Kelendra (Filante) left four winners from as many foals, while Group II ATC Pago Pago Stakes and Group II BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Time For War died after two seasons at Kitchwin Hills.

Amasenus becomes the third stakes-winner for the son of Snitzel after the Group II ATC Silver Slipper Stakes winner Time For War and the Group III MRC Zedative Stakes winner He’ll Haunt Us.
