Smart French Winner for National Defense

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 22

Shuttling to Widden Stud Victoria this spring, National Defense (IRE) sired his third winner overnight in France with an impressive win for two year-old filly Red Smile.

Second last month at Saint Cloud, Red Smile powered clear to win over 7f at Vichy at her third start, giving the impression more wins are in store.

Red Smile is the first winner for her dam Gaita, a winning Teofilo mare from the family of Group I winner Giofra.

She is the third winner for Group I winning Invincible Spirit son National Defense, whose best offspring so far is brilliant filly Twilight Gleaming, who finished second in the Group II Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot.

National Defense stands at a fee of $9,900 this spring.
