Kementari's Sister Opens Her Account at Randwick

After disappointing at her first start behind the smart Four Moves Ahead back in January, the royally bred Lonhro filly Laurelin made no mistake at her second in Wednesday’s Darley Supporting Catwalk Maiden (1100m) on the Kensington track at Randwick.

Given a positive ride by James McDonald, Laurelin took control at the 300m before holding the challenge of the fast-finishing Sebring filly Ringarosa by three-quarters of a length with a further two and a quarter lengths back to the Flying Artie filly Ruby Kisses in third.

Sent off as the favourite following a dominant win in a barrier trial at Gosford on May 7, Laurelin impressed James McDonald.

“She is a super filly. She is going to go on to bigger and better things,” McDonald said.

“The way she executed was nice. She got into a nice rhythm, albeit off a quick tempo. I couldn’t believe the kick she gave off that. It’s a sign of a very nice horse.  

“She has had a good grounding to perform like that off a six-month break.

Lonhro

A sister to Group 1 winner Kementari and a half to Listed winner Telperion, Laurelin is the sixth foal of top-producing Redoute’s Choice mare Yavanna.

Laurelin was the subject of a ‘Best on Breeding' before her first start, which can be viewed here.

 A daughter of the dual Group III winner Wild Queen (Loup Sauvage), who Darley purchased as a yearling for $260,000, Yavanna has a yearling sister to Laurelin named Valier and was covered by Too Darn Hot (GB) last spring.
