Sir Prancealot Filly Has Oaks Potential

Mark Smith - Saturday July 17

Less than two weeks after Belle Of Yorkes credited Sir Prancelot (IRE) with his first Australian winner, the Cornerstone Stud shuttler struck again when the two-year-old filly Gonnadancealot put her opponents to the sword in Saturday's Byerley Handicap (1800m) at Flemington.

Travelling sweetly on the outside of the leader Catskill, Gonnadancealot lengthened impressively when asked for an effort by Jamie Kah to defeat the Adelaide gelding Aktolgali by two and three-quarter lengths with the Tivaci gelding Turn It Up Tommy a further four lengths back in third.

Trained by Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock, Gonnadancealot is part-owned by Australian-born, British-based trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam who signed for the filly along with Alliance Bloodstock for $30,000 from the Ruby Racing and Breeding draft at the 2020 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Mathew de Kock said he hoped the filly's northern hemisphere owners watched the race.

"I'm sure they are, but if they aren't, they will wake up to some beautiful news," de Kock said.

"Myself and Robbie have had this race mapped out for a couple of months and programmed her towards it.

"Each run, she has taken improvement, and the riders have been coming back and saying she had never felt better, so we were confident she would enjoy it.

The co-trainer said he is confident they have an Oaks filly on their hands.

"We have had that in the back of our minds leading into today. We wanted to see a good performance from her today, and I think we saw a performance worthy of those considerations.

"We are fortunate to have spent some time with Jane at Newmarket. "She runs a stable owned by some South African clients of ours. We pass all our quarantine horses there, so she looks after them.

"Horses that hopefully have Group 1 potential, we will be utilising her skills and facilities."

A half-sister to the stakes-placed Topaque (Bel Esprit), Gonnadancealot is the tenth foal of the winning Danehill mare Tresillian, a half-sister to Listed stakes-winner MinstralCourt (Danehill Dancer), who was third in the Group 1  New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas.

Tresillian has a yearling filly by All American and was covered by him again last spring.

Sir Prancealot (IRE) stands at Cornerstone Stud in 2021 at a fee of $9.900.
