Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 16

There were seven heats won by two year-olds at Rosehill on Friday and two of the most interesting winners are Golden Rose contenders that are siblings to Golden Slipper winners.

Carrying the Arrowfield Stud colours, Snitzel colt Remarque is the full brother to Golden Slipper winner Estijaab and showed a glimpse of his famous sister’s ability in his first campaign earlier this year.

Remarque is on the comeback trail!

Trained by Team Hawkes, Remarque won impressively on debut at Rosehill in January and then in his only other start finished fifth in the Group II ATC Todman Stakes behind star colts Anamoe, Profiteer, Home Affairs and eventual Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside.

He was beaten two lengths after racing wide without cover and then showed an elevated temperature not long after, thereby derailing his Slipper preparation.

Remarque looked big and strong this morning and will take good benefit from the 900m trial which he won by a length in 55.83 seconds.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott have already won a Group I juvenile race this season with an Evergreen Rich homebred in Converge and they will no doubt be hoping for success in the coming season with another of their homebreds in Omni Man.

A half-brother by I Am Invincible to Group I ATC Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign and Group II ATC Silver Slipper winner Time to Reign, Omni Man has taken a little longer to come to hand, finishing second at his first trial at Gosford on July 5 before stepping out again today.

Asked to do a bit more this time by Tim Clark, Omni Man tracked the tearaway leader Heavenly Field and powered away from him over the final furlong to win his heat by more than five lengths in 55.29 seconds.

Omni Man is the fifth foal from star producer Courgette, who was bought by Evergreen Rich for $2.1million at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Courgette has had four foals to race and all are winners headed by dual Group I winner and $3million earner She Will Reign, who is now at stud in Japan and was making international news this week. Her first foal, a yearling colt by Heart’s Cry, sold for  ¥165m ($2,046,000) at the JRHA Yearling Sale.

Courgette’s other star performer is Silver Slipper winner Time to Reign, who has let down into a magnificent stallion and is standing this spring at Kingstar Farm at a fee of $9,900.

Evergreen Rich sold a yearling colt by Snitzel from Courgette at Magic Millions this year for $650,000 to China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock / Darby Racing and she has a weanling colt by the same sire to follow.
