Smashing it Out of the Park

The Magic Millions National Weanling Sale soared to new heights this year with a buoyant market so strong it was likened to an elite yearling sale and for this exciting young sire it may well prove to be an eye-opening taste of what is to come.

Brave Smash has made a huge impression with his first weanlings offered at public auction this year.

A dual Group I winning sprinter in Australia, Japanese bred Brave Smash (Jpn) was the surprise hit of this record breaking sale finishing as the fourth leading first crop sire by average (three or more sold) behind only The Autumn Sun (2021 fee $66,000), Justify (2021 fee $55,000) and Trapeze Artist (2021 fee $66,000).

The top trio were the most expensive first season sires to go to stud in 2019, so would be expected to do exactly what they did, but for Brave Smash to finish hot on their heels is an achievement that will not go unnoticed by savvy breeders given he stands at a fee of $16,500 at Aquis this spring.

Representing the world renowned Sunday Silence sireline from a female family packed with elite Japanese Black Type, Brave Smash has pedigree and race performance at the highest level. He possessed explosive speed that delivered him two Group I victories in Australia over 1200 and 1400m and a gallant third in the inaugural Everest, not to mention a further four Group I sprint placings, two of them in the revered VRC Newmarket Handicap.

It’s not hard to see why weanling buyers, both pinhookers and end users, were intrigued by the profile of Brave Smash and then won over by the quality and stamp of his stock.

Brave Smash yearlings are sure to be well received at the major sales in 2022 ensuring opportunity with the best trainers going forward and broodmare owners that support him this spring at the fee of $16,500 may be well rewarded.
