Rubick Delivers Another Winner for Sokolski

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 6

The colours of well known owner Brae Sokolski were caried by Rubick’s Everest winning son Yes Yes Yes and they were in the winner’s circle at Ballarat on Tuesday aboard another three year-old son of Rubick in The Defiant One.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace,  The Defiant One was having his second run back from a lengthy spell after being gelded after his first three starts which yielded a  third , fifth and fourth last year.

Sent out a short priced favourite, Dylan Dunn rode him like a good thing and The Defiant One responded leading all the way to win the 1200m maiden by a length and a quarter.

“It was just a matter of going to the front and steering him to the line,” said Dylan Dunn.

“He’s still very green, so hopefully he’ll get the confidence from this that he needs.”

A $340,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Coolmore draft for Ciaron Maher, The Defiant One runs for a big syndicate headed by Brae Sokolski in whose colours he runs.

The Defiant One as a $340,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Coolmore draft.

The Defiant One was bred by Brad Crismale and is a half-brother to Group II winner Man From Uncle and this season’s promising two year-old winner Head of State (American Pharoah (USA) being the fourth winner from Derelique.

An unraced daughter of Danehill Dancer, Derelique comes from the family of former star mare Shania Dane and Group I winning 2YO Summer Passage as well as stakes-winners Scintillation and Northwest Passage.

Derelique has a yearling filly by American Pharoah and is back in foal to him again after missing to So Think the previous year.

The Defiant One is another promising winner for Rubick, who has relocated to Swettenham Stud this spring and will stand at a fee of $27,500.
