Juvenile Trial Watch – Gosford

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 5

A big set of trials at Gosford on Monday featured nine heats won by two year-olds with Godolphin unleashing a large team of blue bloods including the full sister to Kementari.

A Group I winner of over $2million in prizemoney, Kementari is the typical dark charismatic good looking Lonhro type and so is his little sister Laurelin.

Kementari is the older full brother to Laurelin.

Prepared by James Cumming, Laurelin won a trial in December before finishing midfield on debut behind subsequent top class filly Four Moves Ahead on a very heavy track at Randwick in January.

Having her first public outing since then, Laurelin surged forward under her own steam to lead her 800m heat and went on to score a very easy three and a half length win with Rachel King motionless in the saddle.

Laurelin is the sixth foal from terrific producing Redoute’s Choice mare Yavanna, who has had all six foals to race for five winners with Laurelin promising to keep her record perfect.

Aside from Kementari, Yavanna is also the dam of stakes-winning sire Telperion and stakes placed performers Valaquenta and Palurien.

Yavanna has a yearling filly also by Lonhro and is now in foal to Too Darn Hot (GB) after being given a well deserved year off in 2019.
