Fourth Group I Winner for Australia

Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 4

Aidan O’Brien has been having a great year for Group I results in France and he kept it up overnight winning the Group I Grand Prix de Saint Cloud (1m2f)  with five year-old stallion Broome, a son of Galileo’s Epsom Derby winner Australia.

Fourth in an Epsom Derby at three, Broome failed to flatter in two starts last year, but has come back with a vengeance in 2021.

He reeled off three successive Listed and Group wins at the start of the year before finishing second in the Group I Tattersalls Gold Cup and Group II Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Sent to France and partnered with Colin Keane, Broome produced a career best performance to win his first Group I contest by a length over the Aga Khan’s quality mare Ebaiyra.

““He pricked his ears, galloped right to the line and deserved it. He's been very consistent this year and it was nice to get the Group I beside his name,” said Colin Keane.

A 150,000 Tattersalls October purchase for MV Magnier, Broome has won seven of 17 starts and is a full brother to this year’s stakes-winning two year-old Point Lonsdale and is the best of five winners from stakes-winning Acclamation mare Sweepstake.

Broome is the fourth Group I winner for Australia, who stands at a fee of 25,000 euros at Coolmore Ireland and has proven yet another successful sire son of Galileo.

With his oldest progeny now five year-olds, Australia has sired 19 stakes-winners with his stakes-winner to runner strike rate being a desirable 7%.

Australia is another G1 producing son of Galileo.
He might not be a Frankel, but he is a very good staying sire that Australian buyers shopping for tried horse talent out of Europe should give strong consideration.
