Flemington 2YO Winner for Zoustar

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 3

A homebred for David Moodie’s Hesket Bloodstock, two year-old Zoustar filly Jagar pricked a nice race in which to break her maiden after powering to victory in the $150,000 VRC Sofitel Next Generation Final (1200m).

Trained by Matt Ellerton and Simon Zahra, Jagar was placed at her two previous starts at Ballarat and Cranbourne so was fit and ready to fire.

Well ridden by Damian Lane, Jagar was strong to the line winning by three quarters of a length and has now won nearly $100,000 from her first four starts.

"Her run at Cranbourne was good so she's just taking a while to get there, but she has always shown us good ability,” said Simon Zahra.

"She's always been one of our favourites and one of the picks of David's (Moodie).

"She could head to the farm and have a freshen up now and have a go at something over the spring.”

Jagar is the third winner from three foals to race from Group II winning Statue of Liberty (USA) mare Spirits Dance. She has been luckless at stud since producing Jagar, but appears to be in foal now to Too Darn Hot (GB).

Jagar is the second juvenile winner in the past two days for Zoustar following on from Sunfall, who won at Geelong on Friday., read about him here

Zoustar stands at Widden this spring at a fee of $154,000.
