Juvenile Trial Watch – Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 2

A big set of trials at Canterbury on Friday featured nine heats won by juveniles including an unraced I Am Invincible colt that could easily help his champion sire to crack 200 winners for this season.

Trained by Team Hawkes for a big syndicated headed by Newgate Farm and China Horse Club, Governor was having his second trial after finishing third at his first attempt at Warwick Farm last month.

Ridden by Brenton Avdulla, Governor mustered speed quickly from the gates to take up the lead and was strong to the line under a hold to win the 895m heat by three-quarters of a length in testing heavy 10 conditions.

Governor was a $450,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Yarraman Park draft.

A $450,000 Inglis Easter purchase for China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock from the Yarraman Park draft, Governor is a half-brother to smart filly Newsreader, who won the rich Magic Millions Maiden at the Gold Coast in January.

He is the second foal from Group I placed Thorn Park mare Thinking of You from the family of Group III winner Spurred On.
