Artie Schiller Miler Wins Back to Back Singapore Stakes

Tara Madgwick - Monday September 18
Class miler Twickenham, a seven year-old Australian bred son of Artie Schiller (USA), posted his second successive win in the $200,000 Committee's Prize Sng G3 at Kranji on Sunday.

Twickenham - Singapore Turf ClubThe Stephen Gray trained gelding had not impressed in seven runs since winning last year's edition of this 1600 metre feature and was sent out at long odds.

He belied the lack of interest from punters to take up the lead and fought the race out right to the line to win by half a length.

"I'm so rapt. It's taken him 12 months to win this race again!" said Stephen Gray.

"It's been very tough for him running in weight-for-age races, but he was still running well in his grade.

"He had been working well and was back to his form of last year when he won that race. With 50kgs and a soft lead, he was able to go all the way. Nobody came to soften him up in front and CC Wong rode him very well.

"I'm so rapt for Paul (Hickman) as he's been a loyal owner of mine for a long time. I haven't planned anything for Twickenham yet, I will just enjoy that win and have a big party tonight."

Twickenham has won nine of 31 starts and is the best of five winners from General Nediym mare Lady Migaloo.

He was the second stakes-winner over the weekend for Aquis Farm's Artie Schiller, who also sired promising two year-old filly Amy's Challenge to win the $80,000 Shakopee Juvenile Stakes at Canterbury Downs in North America.
