Hong Kong hero Beauty Generation (NZ) (Road to Rock) has settled nicely into life after racing at the world-renowned Australian-based retired racehorse facility, Living Legends.
Established in Victoria, Living Legends are proud advocates of education and knowledge towards the aftercare of racehorses, with many former champions residing on their pastures.
A momentous purchase from Karaka 2014, Beauty Generation was bred by Nearco Stud and offered through Highden Park’s Select Sale draft, where Hermes Syndications purchased him for NZ$60,000.
Throughout his career, the New Zealand-bred gelding won 20 races from 41 starts and earned HK$113,019,352 for owner Patrick Kwok, making him the highest-ever prizemoney earner in Hong Kong history.
At his peak, the two-time Hong Kong Horse of the Year was an incredible force around Sha Tin, claiming two editions of the Hong Kong Champions Mile among his eight Group One wins for trainer John Moore, before he had his final three race starts under the care of trainer David Hayes.
Living Legends CEO Dr Andrew Clarke said he is thrilled to have a horse with Beauty Generation’s stature arrive at the property.
"He is one of the top horses to ever come out of Hong Kong," Dr Clarke said.
"He still holds two track records. He's got a track record over the mile and a track record over 2000m. He held a track record at Sha Tin for a while too over 1400m."
Confident that Beauty Generation had settled into his new environment, Clarke commented on the horse’s arrival at Living Legends.
“Beauty Generation, we call him Genie, has settled in very well here at Living Legends and is loving retired life.”
“Genie has a strong personality, similar in many ways to Silent Witness and Might and Power.
“He’s the boss of the paddock and he likes to be, in fact insists on being, fed first at meal time.
“He’s also very popular with our visitors and is extremely sociable when he sees tour groups approaching. He runs quickly over to greet them, as he knows that there will be carrots on hand.
“We are surrounded by over 1500 acres of Parklands with bridleways through the property. Our thinking is that he will enjoy trail riding in the park in the coming months and all being well, entry into some horse shows and competitions in the future.
“We are very grateful to the Kwok family for entrusting the care of their horses to Living Legends,” Clarke said.

Like Beauty Generation, many top-flight performers make their way through NZB’s sale ring onto the legendary turf at Sha Tin.
NZB graduate Sky Field (Deep Field) upstaged his top-class stablemate Sky Darci (NZ) (Darci Brahma) in an all-Karaka quinella in this year’s HK$3.5m Group Three Premier Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin.
Bought by his owners the Kwan family for $175,000 from Trelawney Stud’s draft at Karaka 2018, Sky Field has now had 14 starts for five wins, five placings and HK$10.5m in stakes – the equivalent of NZ$1.95m, which is 11 times his purchase price.
Despite his impressive record, the four-year-old went into the Premier Cup in the shadow of his high-flying Casper Fownes-trained stablemate Sky Darci – the $160,000 Karaka 2018 purchase who triumphed in this year’s Hong Kong Derby (2000m) and has earned more than HK$21m in stakes.
In the current Hong Kong 2020-21 season, there have been 135 individual winners from just 357 runners bred in New Zealand, earning a total amount of HK$320,374,250 in prizemoney.
