Mosheen's Daughter Second on Debut in Japan

Mark Smith - Sunday September 17

The Tetsuya Kimura-trained Primo Scene, a daughter of Fastnet Rock's 4-time Group I winning daughter Mosheen, was sent off favourite in her career debut in a Newcomer race over 1600 metres for 2-year-old fillies at Nakayama on Sunday but ran into one who may be very smart.

A daughter of the champion stallion Deep Impact, Primo Scene is the second foal of Mosheen who finished second to Sepoy in the Golden Slipper when sent out a 100/1 chance off just one previous start.

At three, Mosheen won the Group I Victorian Oaks in the spring before reeling off consecutive wins in the Group I Australian Guineas, Group I Randwick Guineas and Group I Vinery Stakes in the autumn.

Forever associated with the late Phil Sly, Mosheen was part-owned by Katsumi Yoshida. When time was called on her career on the track, Mosheen headed to Japan where she had a date with Deep Impact.

Her first foal, Calico, has shown little ability to date and has been unplaced in all five starts this year most recently when 10th of 18 in a Kokura maiden over 2000m on August 6.

Primo Scene has displayed considerably more promise but what about the winner Tosen Bless who came from last of the 16 runners to win running away by one and a quarter lengths.

Tosen Bless is another daughter of super sire Deep Impact.

Her dam Bloomin Bar' is a daughter of the former Arrowfield shuttler Falbrav (IRE).

In seven years on the track, Bloomin' Bar won seven of her 35 starts including the Listed Shinetsu Stakes on the same track that her daughter made such a startling debut.

Mosheen has a yearling filly by that magnificent sprinter Lord Kanaloa (King Kamehameha).

Twice winner of the Group I Sprinters Stakes as well as back to back runnings of the Group I Hong Kong Sprint, Lord Kanaloa has started his stud career in promising style.

The 2013 Japanese Horse Of The Year is currently sitting atop of the first season sires table with 8 winners from his 39 starters.
