Inglis Great Southern Supplementary Features Stunning Capitalist Colt

Media Release - Thursday June 24

A strong supplementary catalogue of 53 lots – including weanlings by some of Australia’s most exciting stallions, as well as black type performed mares and mares carrying desirable pregnancies – has been confirmed for the Great Southern Sale.

In total, 28 weanlings and 25 race fillies and broodmares have been added to the catalogue, taking the overall number to 587.

The supplementary catalogue includes weanlings by high profile sires such as Capitalist, Exceed And Excel, Deep Field, So You Think, Toronado, Frosted and Maurice among others.

Additional race fillies and breeding stock include the likes of multiple G3 winner Delectation Girl, Fuhrnatic – the dam of multiple G3 winner and G1 placegetter Fuhryk – plus mares in foal to the likes of Extreme Choice, Zoustar, Yes Yes Yes, Frosted, Exceedance etc.

The supplementary mares catalogue also includes Shamardal mare Lady Blakeney, an exceptionally rare offering given she is in foal to Godolphin’s young sire sensation Night Of Thunder, whose only Australian crop of racing age is responsible for five Stakes winners from just 36 runners to date, including recent G1 winner Kukeracha.

“It is fantastic to have what was already a very strong catalogue supplemented by a number of very appealing additional lots,” Inglis’ Victorian Bloodstock Manager James Price said.

“The Victorian restrictions that forced the sale to be postponed from its original dates in the first place have largely all been eased now and we’re looking forward to seeing as many buyers as possible on the grounds at Oaklands from next week.’’

“Interest in the sale from buyers has been excellent and it was great to see this week the NZ/Victoria travel bubble re-open, as well as Queenslanders now permitted back into Victoria so the sale is shaping as one that most buyers will be able to physically attend.

“We will obviously continue to monitor the Covid situation in the Greater Sydney area, but even if some buyers are unable to attend, our online bidding services will, as always, be available and I’m confident buyers are so used to this form of purchasing these days that it will have minimal to no impact on the sale itself.’’

The supplementary entries come on top of an already large and strong catalogue featuring 409 weanlings and 125 broodmares.

Weanlings by 109 individual stallions are catalogued for the sale, with main book leading sires including Capitalist, Exceed And Excel, More Than Ready, Zoustar, Written Tycoon, Street Boss, So You Think, Pierro, Deep Field, Brazen Beau, Extreme Choice, Flying Artie, Frosted, Toronado, Lonhro, Dundeel, Ocean Park etc represented, as are an exciting crop of first season sires including Justify, Trapeze Artist, Grunt, Written By, Brave Smash, Harry Angel, National Defense, Sioux Nation, Mendelssohn, Lean Mean Machine, Showtime, Villermont and Boom Time.

There will then be a collection of proven producers and younger mares in foal to the likes of Capitalist, Street Boss, Dundeel, Exceedance, Frosted, Lonhro, Nicconi, The Autumn Sun, Toronado and Omaha Beach etc offered on Day 2 of the auction.

With recent graduates such as G1 winners Gytrash, Montefilia, Behemoth and On The Bubbles, the Great Southern Sale continues to assert itself as one of the leading breeding stock sales in the country for end users and pinhookers alike.

The Great Southern Sale will be held as a physical auction at Oaklands on Sunday July 4 and Monday July 5.

Parades will begin at Oaklands mid next week. The official parade schedule will be available on the Inglis website in the coming days.

The sale will begin at 10am next Sunday, July 4.
