Hinchinbrook's Miss In Charge Breaks the Ice

Mark Smith - Wednesday June 23

Punters were made to sweat before Hugh Bowman found a narrow seam at the 100m on the heavily backed favourite Miss In Charge, who opened her winning account in the Microphone@Darley Maiden Hcp (1250m) at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Coming off a third behind the promising Snitzel colt Verne at Warwick Farm, Miss In Charge broke through at her fourth start.

Carrying the colours of Joe O'Neill's Prime Thoroughbreds, the Kris Lees trained daughter of Hinchinbrook defeated the Tavistock filly Tavi L'amour by a half-neck with the More Than Ready (USA) filly Zentime one and a quarter lengths back in third.

"She is a nice filly on the way," stable representative Cameron Swan said.

"I thought she paraded a lot better today. She was all boxed up, and I was worried with 200m to go, but she was good enough to get through the gap and finish them off.

"Joe (O'Neil) has had horses for us for a long time, so it was nice to win for him and the owners."
