Hong Kong Stakes-Winner for Deep Field

Trained by Caspar Fownes and ridden by Blake Shinn, Sky Field charged to the line from back in the field to beat his Hong Kong Derby winning stablemate Sky Darci by nearly two lengths.

“I’ve told you how good he is and it was wonderful to see Blake get the result with him. He settled beautifully for Blake last start and again today over an extra furlong he settled really well. In the run ‘I said ‘I know what he can do’. The best is yet to come with him, so it’s wonderful,” said Caspar Fownes, who will aim the gelding towards the Hong Kong International races at the end of the year.

Blake Shinn was impressed with Sky Field.

“Caspar just emphasised to switch the horse off and use his best asset, which is his turn of foot. The horse did everything right,” Shinn said.

“When I produced him, he picked them up effortlessly and ran right through the line. It’s great because we’ve all believed in this horse’s ability and he stood up and beat a quality field. It’s just fantastic to win a Group race here in Hong Kong.

“Even though he didn’t win a Group 1 today, I’m sure next preparation he’s only going to flourish and become a really big force in the coming season.”

A $175,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase from the Trelawney Stud draft for Mr D Kwan, Sky Field has the overall record of five wins and five placings from 14 starts.

Karaka graduate Sky Field.

Bred by Mike Ryan, Sky Field was foaled and raised at Segenhoe and is the fifth winner from Laravissante, a half-sister by O’Reilly to Hong Kong Group I winner The Duke.

Laravissante had a filly by Pariah last spring and was then covered again by Deep Field.

Deep Field has become a favourite with the Hong Kong market and has sired 11 winners there, nine of them this season.

Deep Field has had a fee increase this year and stands at $88,000.
