Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 18

The Rosehill trials on Friday morning featured six heats won by two year-olds that included the full brother to a Golden Slipper winner and the half-sister to outstanding filly Isotope.

Connections of exciting Deep Field filly Isotope will have to be patient as the glamour Queenslander has been ruled out off the spring carnival due to recent colic surgery, but for her half-sister Rupertaar it’s all just beginning.

Trained by Bjorn Baker, Rupertaar has shown good ability in previous trials, but upped the ante in her 900m heat to win by five and a half lengths in 54.90 seconds, which was the quickest of the juvenile heats.

She led for Rachel King and was always in cruise control, so looks well and truly ready to make her raceday debut.

A $90,000 Magic Millions purchase for Darby Racing/De Burgh Equine from the Daandine Stud draft, Rupertaar is the second foal of Great Dansaar, whose yearling colt by Sebring sold for $450,000 at Magic Millions this year.

Darby Racing have already enjoyed success with this family having raced Great Dansaar’s half-sister Yankee Rose, a dual group I winner of over $2million in prizemoney.

Also catching the eye was the Hawkes Racing trained Exceed and Excel colt Stromboli, a full brother to Golden Slipper winner Overreach, Group II winner Standout and Group III placed sire Outreach.

Having his first public trial; Stromboli led all the way for Tommy Berry and won by a head under a hold.

Stromboli was retained to race by George Altomonte’s Corumbene Stud after passing in shy of his $950,000 reserve at Inglis Easter last year.

Stromboli as a yearling.

Other two year-old heat winners were: I Am Single (Not a Single Doubt), Sir Crackle (Choisir), Turnstar (Star Turn) and Loving Angel (Winning Rupert).
