One to Watch – Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Thursday June 17

Darley blue hen Essaouira produced a new winner at Wyong on Thursday and the blue-blooded filly also gave her rider Rachel King her 100th winner of the season.

The James Cummings trained Tangier was having her third race start and the three year-old daughter of Medaglia D’Oro (USA) improved on her previous efforts of a fifth and a third to wscore a length victory.

A big filly that has been given plenty of time, she relished the 1600m and travelled smoothly on the fence back in the field before hitting top gear when switched into clear running and won with her ears pricked.

A sibling to Group I winners Astern and Alizee as well as Group placed Tassort and Mogador, Tangier is the sixth winner from eight foals to race from Exceed and Excel mare Essaouira, who has an exceptional lineage with her next three dams being Group II winner Alizes, Group I winner La Baraka and Champion Filly Triscay.

Essaouira has a yearling filly by Sepoy that is a full sister to $3.1million earning triple Group I winner Alizee and is in foal to Blue Point (IRE) after losing a filly by I Am Invincible last spring.

Medaglia D'Oro is the sire of Group I winner Astern and also Tangier.
