Before we delve down into a large group of $22,000 sires, there is a small price point in between that features some intriguing young sires and two proven performers, both standing in Victoria.
Nicconi and Rubick are both relocating from the Hunter Valley to Victoria for the first time this spring, so let’s take a look at their stats.

First Season
Darley have a really interesting horse in four time Group I winner Ghaiyyath, the Cartier European Horse of the Year for 2020 and the best-ever son of their champion sire Dubawi, who shuttled to Australia for three seasons at the very start of his career.
Dubawi enjoyed good success here producing numerous Aussie bred stakes-winners from those early years highlighted by Group I winners Secret Admirer, Tiger Tees, Shamal Wind and Srikandi.
Ghaiyyath was a 1.1million euro yearling purchase for Godolphin and looked well worth the money when winning two of his three starts at two, but a training injury in early 2018 ruled out virtually his entire classic season.
Given his ability and their considerable investment in Ghaiyyath, Godolphin persisted with his racing career and were rewarded when he emerged at five as the best turf racehorse in the world.

Second and Third Season
We have three sires here to choose from in Group I winning second season sires Alabama Express (Redoute’s Choice) and Brutal (O’Reilly) along with Written By (Written Tycoon) whose first weanlings have been offered at sales this year.
Written By had three weanlings average $56,667 at Magic Millions National and six average $48,167 at Inglis Australian Select.
They come from his first crop of 107 foals that were conceived at a fee of $24,750, with the slight fee drop to $22,000 in 2020 the result of Widden stud’s overall response to pandemic with his pre-pandemic fee reinstated this year.
