One to Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Monday June 14

Randwick trainer John Thompson is renowned for his patient approach and it looks like paying dividends for this talented daughter of So You Think, who posted her first metropolitan success at Warwick Farm on Monday.

Three year-old filly Kibosh has been honing her racing skills at country and provincial tracks and came to town off a four and a half length win at Kembla last month.

She was a hot favourite for the Benchmark 64 event over 1600m and led all the way for Reece Jones to win by three-quarters of a length taking her overall record to three wins and four seconds from eight starts with prizemoney just shy of $100,000.

“Garry and Tony Pemberton are great supporters of my stable,” Thompson said.

“They let you do your job and it allows us to bring horses like this through their grades, give them a bit of confidence and take them where they need to go.

“She is a progressive mare by So You Think and you’d think she would only get better over more ground. We’ll see how she pulls up from this run and go from there.”

A homebred for the Pemberton family, Kibosh is the first winner for well bred import Keenness (GB), a winning half-sister by Tiger Hill to German stakes-winner Kerosin from Monsu’s Group III winning daughter Karavel, who was also second in the Group I German Oaks.

Keenness is also closely related to Group I winner Konigstiger the family also producing former top class Kiwi based sire Pentire (GB), so Kibosh has the depth of pedigree to suggest she’s only going to get better as she matures  and is tried over longer trips.

It seems incredible that a mare with the pedigree of Keenness should find herself in an Inglis Online Sale last year where she sold for just $800 to Trump Bloodstock in foal to Domesday.

She produced a filly for her new owners and is in foal to Exosphere.

Kibosh is one of over 120 winners this season for So You Think, whose offspring have won over $12million and include 12 Australian stakes-winners.

So You Think is having a career best season.

So You Think stands at Coolmore at a fee of $77,000.
