Ranier Does Best in Battle of the Lonhro's in Wayne Wilson

Mark Smith - Saturday June 12

Despite adding almost $3million to the Godolphin coffers, Lonhro’s sons Ranier and Kementari have not endeared themselves to punters of late, but the pair settled down to fight out a thrilling finish to Saturday’s Listed Radiotab The Wayne Wilson (1600m) at Eagle Farm.

Ridden by Hugh Bowman, Ranier kept up a relentless gallop to deny Kementari by a half-head.

Kings Will Dream (IRE) gave his connections plenty to cheer about with his three-quarter length third at his swansong.

With his fifth stakes win, Ranier advances his record to seven wins, six seconds and three thirds from 37 starts with earnings of $744,820.

The Godolphin homebred is the best of two winners from three to race out of the talented Commands mare Kanzan whose three stakes wins included the Group III BRC Glenlogan Park Stakes.

A three-quarter sister to the Listed stakes-winning 2yo Kordia (Epaulette) and a half-sister to the stakes-placed Giresun (Domesday), Kanzan has a 2yo Lonhro colt named Kanazawa and a yearling colt by Lonhro.

Kanzan was covered by Encryption in 2019, but tragically died in March last year.
