The $44,000 price point has eight contenders so they are a group unto themselves and for breeders seeking young sires on the up they are spoiled for choice with no sire in this group having offspring any older than current two year-olds.
First Season
Darley have a heavy hitter here in Shamardal’s champion son Pinatubo (IRE), whose credentials on paper are eye opening.
Undefeated as a juvenile winning all six starts, Pinatubo was crowned European Champion 2YO thanks to a season in which he earned a Timeform rating of 134 making him the highest-rated European juvenile for 25 years.
The Triple Group I winner also has a flawless pedigree coming from the revered Black Type female family of champion sires I Am Invincible and Kodiac.
If you are one of the many Australian breeders that enjoyed a good result with Shamardal when he used to shuttle to Australia, then you’re going to find it hard to go past this guy!
Second Season
Blue Point (IRE) (Shamardal), Pierata (Pierro) and Too Darn Hot (GB) (Dubawi) are very different horses from thee completely different sirelines, but what they have in common is being Group I winning sons of champion sires.
All three were well patronised in their first season and in a recent Breednet story investigating the quality of mares covered by first season sires last spring these three topped the list with Too Darn Hot covering 52 stakes winners or stakes producers, Blue Point and Pierata just behind covering 49 each. Pierata has been moved to Aquis Queensland along with all their other sires, which may well impact on his numbers this year.

Fourth and Fifth Season
The last four sires priced at $44,000 are Frosted (USA), Maurice (Jpn) and Shalaa (IRE), who have all done really well with their first Australian two year-olds this season and Russian Revolution, who will have his first runners next season.
Frosted, Maurice and Shalaa are all shuttle sires and have achieved success in the Northern Hemisphere with their first runners in addition to what we know they have done here in Australia.
Standing in Kentucky, Frosted has three year-olds running for him this year in the Northern Hemisphere and has so far had 34 winners that include eight stakes horses headed by Group I winner Travel Column and stakes-winners Cave Hill and Inject.
Standing in Japan, Maurice has three year-olds running for him this year in the Northern Hemisphere and has had 66 winners so far including nine stakes horses headed by Group II winner Shigeru Pink Ruby and Group III winners Rooks Nest and Pixie Knight.
Standing in France, Shalaa has three year-olds running for him this year in the Northern Hemisphere and has had 37 winners so far including four stakes horses headed by Group III winner No Speak Alexander and stakes-winner King Shalaa.
